The Seven Last Words of Christ – 4
The Fourth Word
By Rev. Mark Breese, Community Missions
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Today this brings me to a real moment of tears. It is on my mind, all those in the hospital with COVID-19. I know that some feel so forsaken. The nature of this illness is that people in the hospital in isolation can’t have visitors. It is so contagious that many are dying alone. So by way of reflection I think instead I would ask that well take the next few moments to pray for all those in isolation.
“Jesus, you knew the pain the loss of being left in your hour of need. You felt the certainty that you were alone. Lord, so many now are facing this. We know that you died so that we would always have your spirit, God’s Holy Spirit, within us. Please Lord, we beg you that you make your presence known to all those who are in isolation now. Let it be a flame of hope within them. Make it so strong a presence that they can’t ignore the love that comes with it and be comforted by that love. And Lord, please Lord, help us to bring a swift end to this pandemic so no one else need suffer. Amen.”
