Today’s Texts:

Isaiah 11:6-9: The peaceful kingdom prophecy, where harmony reigns.

Luke 2:8-14: The shepherds are visited by angels who announce the birth of Jesus.

Isaiah 11:6-9

The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them. The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den. They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

Luke 2:8-14

In that region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!”

Today’s Meditation:   Isaiah’s prophecy paints a serene world where former adversaries live together in peace, offering us a glimpse of a future where harmony prevails over conflict. This vision resonates deeply, kindling our hope for a world transformed by understanding and unity. In the Gospel of Luke, the story of the shepherds and the angels beautifully illustrates the dawn of this new era with the birth of Jesus. A Prayer For Today:  Loving God, on this third Sunday of Advent, we are grateful for the promise of peace and transformation. Help us to live out the harmony and goodwill proclaimed by the angels, making it a reality in our world. Guide us to be instruments of Your peace, sharing Your love and light in all we do. Amen.
