Advent & Hope
Printable PDF of Today’s Reflection
As we see all the things that are going on in the world, we can reflect on Advent. We can recognize that it is a time of hope. And we have hope knowing that God is in control. Knowing that Jesus came into the world to save us. And that through his birth we have hope because we know that he came into the world to take away the darkness. And, because of our hope, we can have peace. We can have joy knowing that he came to guide and lead us through the confusion and the darkness in this world. He came to pull us out of the darkness and to shine his light of hope on us.
Even though the violence, the hate and the overall increase of conflict is going on in the world, we have hope because we know that God is with us. Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness, the light that overcomes.
When we lose our hope, we also lose our peace and our joy. We become depressed and devastated, not knowing which way to go. We find ourselves in a state of despair, and sometimes we give up. But, because of Jesus we don’t have to give up. He gives us strength to keep going, he gives us hope. He makes a way for us, and his light shines and shows us the way. Jesus gives us the thrill of hope. The excitement and expectation of knowing that he will work things out. Because of Jesus even when we find ourselves in the midst of all the chaos, we know that there is still joy and love in the world.
We have the hope that Jesus will make all things new. That there will be no more hatred, no more violence, no more prejudice and racism, no poverty or abuse.
We have the hope of knowing that his light will shine forever.
As Psalm 121:11 says,
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
