Daily Prayer for – 1st Tuesday of Advent
Opening Sentences:
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.ff
“The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah.” (Jeremiah 33:14)
Praying Together
To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. (Psalm 25:1, 4)
Amen.
Confession (Based on.Psalm 25):
For your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great.
We confess that our hope is often in the might of our own hands instead of your merciful and all knowing ways.
We confess that in this season of light our actions are often dark and hurtful.
We confess that in this season of light we spend our time seeking lights that will burn out, and spend our money on things that will wear out.
Light up our lives with your glorious presence and let us be bearers of your light to others.
Forgive us, dear Lord, and help us, as we wait for your coming with patience and hope in our hearts, sharing your light with all the world. Amen.
Based on Psalm 25:
Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.
Hope in the Lord, for his covenants are everlasting and his word is true.
[Silent Prayer; or Music may be listened to; or a Hymn is sung.]
Prayers of the People:
Lord of light and hope, bring your light into this world full of darkness and hope for those who suffer from violence.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
[Silent Prayer]
We pray for our political leaders that they make decisions that reflect their promises to those whom they serve, and their professed love for you.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer. [Silent Prayer]
Heavenly Father, comfort those who are ill, those in prison, and those suffering from all manner of addictions.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
[Silent Prayer]
We pray for those who have no hope, that they hear your promise, and begin to hope in you.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
[Silent Prayer]
Hear our prayer O Lord as we pray together:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Closing prayer:
Now, may our Creator and our Lord Jesus direct our way and strengthen our hearts in holiness that we may serve him faithfully this day. For God is our hope and in whom all things are possible. Amen.
